Certified Prescribed Burn Manager
An
individual with ultimate authority and
responsibility in conducting a prescribed burn. A
certified prescribed burn manager has met the
minimum standards of training and experience and
obtained the required insurance. A certified
prescribed burn manager provides reasonable
assurance that the prescribed burn will be confined
to a predetermined area, that the effects of smoke
emissions are minimized and that the burn will be
conducted in a manner that will accomplish land
management objectives.
Required Training
Training
consists of a minimum of a five-day course
approved by the Board. The course consists of
general fire training and specialized training for
the region in which the person is certified, using
material developed by the Board. The course will
contain formal classroom lectures and practical
field sessions, including a prescribed burn.
Minimum Training
Required
Applicants must attend the Board-approved
Certified Prescribed Burn Manger course and pass the
exam. Courses include (a) a Board-approved Texas
course (b) a Board-approved out of state course or
(c) NWCG Type II Burn Boss or higher course.
Minimum Experience Required
Applicants must be able to document a minimum of:

Three years of prescribed burning within a specific region.

Thirty-days of prescribed burning not limited by region.

Five days of prescribed burning as the responsible individual.
